Connection based, improvised partner dancing
Regular socials, beginner classes and themed workshops ✨️
A safeR dance space for FLINTA, queers and allies 🌈
What is Fusion?
Fusion is improvised, connection-based partner dancing. Its focus lies in the mindful and attentive interaction of the dance partners, holding space for each other's expression and drawing inspiration from each other's movements.
Elements from partner dances like Blues, Swing, Latin dances, Tango, or Contact Impro can, but don't have to be incorporated. Each dance is an individual co-creation, determined by the music, the background of the dancers, and their connection in that very moment.
Fusion is very influenced by queer values - most dancers learn to lead and to follow, switch frequently between those roles and enjoy dancing with people of all genders. Consent-culture, respect, tolerance and inclusivity are non-negotiable core-elements of Fusion.

Frequently asked questions and answers:
Yes, absolutely! Fusion is a wonderful way to start your dance-journey. There is no right or wrong - the way it feels is more important than the way it looks. And the way you move is already dance!
Nevertheless, if you come to our workshops you will acquire lots of universally applicable skills and tools for your partner dancing. If you’re completely new, consider joining the fundamentals crash courses (half an hour before every open level workshop) where we take a look at basic core concepts of partner dance.
Fusion is very influenced by queer values, and so are we. We aim to create a safeR space for queer and trans people by
asking everyone to introduce themselves with pronouns,
educating participants about the queer roots of Fusion,
educating participants about the accessibility needs of queer people in dance spaces
and reminding everyone frequently that dance roles and expressions don’t have to be tied to gender identity.
In our dance classes there are no fixed role assignments and everyone learns to lead and to follow.
We have a Code of Conduct which is actively communicated and displayed at every event and enforced with the support of a care-team.
Our aim is to protect the most marginalized people in our community. Our priority is supporting victims and survivors. If a participant or organizer engages in harassment or unsafe behaviour, the care team will take any action they deem appropriate, including, but not limited to:
Speaking to them privately to clarify expectations.
Giving them a written warning as a formal reiteration of the code of conduct and our expectations of them
Restricting certain behaviors at our events – for example asking them not to dance in close embrace
Removing them from positions of influence.
Asking them to leave the event.
Banning them from future events either temporarily or permanently
Everyone will be held to the same standards of behavior and misconduct will be addressed regardless of the status or identity of the perpetrator – that includes our organizing team, the care team and teachers/DJs.
If your boundaries have been crossed:
You can speak to a member of our care team at any time if you feel worried or uncomfortable. We promise to:
Listen to your concerns and take them seriously
Talk to you about what you’d like to happen now, and honor your wishes wherever possible
Protect your confidentiality as much as we can
We will never make you confront someone who has hurt you or made you uncomfortable.
You can come alone, with partners, friends, family… In fusion, everybody dances with everybody and you will most certainly meet new people on the dance floor very quickly. Usually there is a taster and/or workshop before the social dancing. That’s already a great way to meet people - and to learn some new skills!
We frequently switch partners and roles during the workshops. Newbies and dance pros alike will be introduced to different technical elements and tools for improvisation, which will allow you to jump right into the following social dance.
At the social, you can dance alone, in pairs or with more people, you can have squishy slow dances or energetic dance-jam-circles, you can show off your interpretive dance skills or just chill on the side and indulge in some people-watching - it’s entirely up to you.
How can I support you?

Care Team
You care about consent and safeR spaces in dancing and want to contribute? Amazing! We are always looking for people to join our care-team, even just for one evening.
As a care person, you are approachable as a sort of first responder for people in need for assistance - may it be for enforcing boundaries, reporting a violation/safety concern, or emotional regulation. We will give you a detailed explanation and a little training once you sign up. -
DJ/Live Music
You are a passionate DJ and/or musician and would like to see a room full of people blissfully dancing to your art? We would love to have you as a DJ/musician at one of our events, just reach out to us via instagram or info@fusionwavesvienna.com. We can not offer compensation at this point. -
